Mars Cazimi

Good Morning- welcome to my “morning pages” astro blog, a place where I wake up and raw-dog some writing as I awaken for the day. so, disclaimer, this wont be the most eloquent or cogent or grammatically sound but BY GOD… it will be words on a screen- so they must be taken seriously. It’s written in the Unwritten Code of Conduct For the Modern World*, in the section beneath “if it has a website, it has to be legit”.

Today there is a transit we only see once every 2 two years, the Mars Cazimi, it’s kinda special. & It’s a little extra special because it is occurring in Scorpio which hasn’t happened in decades. A cazimi is when a planet enters “the heart of the sun”, meaning it appears to intersect the sun in the sky, also known as a conjunction- an astrologer’s term for when two or more planets meet up in the sky. Conjunctions aren’t specific to the sun but cazimi’s are, cazimi’s are a very specific sun-involved conjunction.

Cazimis represent a rebirth for this planet, today Mars passes through the cauldron and emerges purified on the other side. This indicates a renewal for our Martian things and for the Martian houses of our charts. Mars rules motivation, energy, bravery, drive, sex drive, aggression, war, physicality, & physical injury. Between today and tomorrow, our action plans are being recalibrated as we fine-tune our directives. How shall we use our precious energy? This is an occasion to redefine our personal terms of use for our energy stores. And, to take this a step further, we are reestablishing motivations we have within our Scorpio house specifically. Moon, meet mercury

It’s far from the first time they are meeting, this is just their monthly meeting for November. The moon will conjunct Mercury in Sagittarius at 9:03 AM est, after which point they will begin to separate and the influence will lessen.

When the moon and mercury meet, it’s an occasion when you can anticipate a flurry of information, that the computer processor that lives in your head will be whirring. You may be enduring a situation with a lot to be mentally unpacked, or there may be a problem that requires solving, it could be a period with many conversations to have… it’s an occasion for talking, thinking, writing, & busy work. It’s also the perfect moment to craft some awkward run-on sentences for your blog- like I’m doing right now! This is what happens when you attempt to formulate thoughts before your coffee has kicked in, how on-brand for mercury in Sagittarius.

Mercury is in exile in Sagittarius, it is now a planet far from home in a foreign country, where it struggles to read the street signs or communicate with the locals. When mercury transits Sag, its life is slightly more complicated, it is a planet with less bandwidth, and thus represents a time when humanity has less mental bandwidth. Thinking and communicating (mercurial things) are a bit more preoccupying, some of our most essential activities, that should be easy, simply aren’t.

This moon-mercury meeting, however, is receiving some Venusian support- we love to see it! Despite this period’s complications, we aren’t having a terrible time because we are feeling connected with those around us. Sharing an experience with others makes it easier to bear and sometimes it even makes the experience more fun. This Venusian influence also signals that this is an occasion when we are taking better care of ourselves and tending to our physical and mental needs, y’know self-care OR WHATEVER. Again- we love to see it!

Scorpio New Moon 2023

It’s not May 28, it’s November 13, 2023. But I haven’t figured out how to redesign these blog templates yet.

ANYWAYS - that’s beside the point

I thought it would be fun to start a daily astro blog, that I might wake up and drink my coffee and write about the astrology that day and get calibrated. I’ve gotten into the trash-ass habit of doom-scrolling over my coffee in the mornings and it’s NOT AWESOME. To wake up and immediately fill my brain with other peoples’ mental oozings before I’ve even oozed myself, beginning each day inundated with OOZE - it doesn’t feel great.

ANYHOW-

The Scorpio new moon is this morning, it’s an occasion to begin something new! To plant new seeds. For me, Scorpio is my 9th house of publishing, so beginning a blog seems about right. Double points for it being an astrology blog, since the 9th house is also an astrology house, it’s the house of divination, personal beliefs, and disseminating information. Damn, I’m crushing this new moon.

But, I wasn’t always crushing this new moon- I almost didn’t start this blog today. I meant to bring my laptop to bed with me last night so I could wake up and immediately start writing, but I didn’t, forgot my laptop. Instead, I woke up, I scrolled, I failed. “Maybe I’ll start tomorrow”, I thought, “when I can do it right”.

BITCH, WHY?! A Mars-ruled new moon doesn’t wait for shit. Conditions are never perfect, beginning is the hardest part. Just start.

Though there is an astrological explanation for why the day of the new moon is a difficult time to begin something, the luminaries (Sun and moon) are the source of our energy. During a new moon period, the moon is not visible, it does not reflect the sun’s light back to us, we receive less energy, we feel less energetic, our activity levels are reduced… simply, it’s a low-key period. Many astrologers recommend using the days around the new moon to incubate, rest, and brainstorm so that you can be ready to execute once the moon returns. If there is something you’ve been struggling to begin this early week, don’t be too hard on yourself - the time will come. In the case of this week, I anticipate the time will come this Friday with the Mars cazimi, also in Scorpio, our Scorpionic motivations will return with vengeance- and I do mean vengeance…

The Scorpio house of our charts has been going through a major purge for the past ~2 years. We just concluded a grueling eclipse cycle on the Scorpio-Taurus axis, the South Node has been taking its sweet time crawling through Scorpio during this cycle and has been cleaning house. South Node represents ‘decrease’, wherever it is transiting in our chart is where in our lives we will notice a lessening, a thining. Let’s imagine the houses of a chart as literal houses, and the South Node as an interior decorator, when the South Node arrives in a house- they are less than impressed. Everything is dated, it’s old, it’s cluttered and dusty and musty and gross. In order to modernize that house, first everything must go. I guess the south node isn’t really much of an interior designer, you’re the designer, the SN is more like someone you’ve hired to declutter your house who got too carried away and ditched almost everything.

So, our Scorpio houses are feeling very depleted right about now, and the time has finally come to start making them homey and cozy again. This week we breathe new life into the Scorpio house of our charts. We respawn, whether we want to or not. Video games make respawning or regenerating look so easy, but in reality, it’s difficult and it kinda sucks ass.
